The story of Onyx and Marble is actually a story of Mother Earth. After all, Mother Earth is the best stone factory. Onyx has found a special place in the history of civilization. Egyptian high priests utilized Onyx goblets for sacred ceremonies. Ancient Romans held Onyx to be a divine stone and drank out of Onyx glasses to herald victories. Even in Biblical times the high priest used Onyx in special divine ceremonies.
The history of Onyx and Marble is as vivid as the colors in which they come. The geological process forming Onyx and Marble is a tale of an ugly duckling transformed into a beautiful swan. Millions of years ago when the continents were drifting and the plates of the earth were colliding, temperatures exceeding 1800 degrees Farhenheit and the immense pressure of crustal collision transformed limestone into Marble. Minerals and interaction with spring waters have imparted beautiful colors to Marble and Onyx. Sometimes organic matter, such as the remains of marine life and plants, are found in the fossil stones. These fossils have proven to be in excess of 50 million years. Thus Onyx and Marble are snapshots of precious moments of time in Earth's history.
